How far is the resort from Atlanta? We are an easy drive of 1 hour & 15min to 1 hour & 45 min drive north / northeast of the city. Of course, this time varies based on the time of day, traffic and weather.
How far is the resort from the Atlanta airport? We are approximately 1 hour & 45 min drive from the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
I am vegetarian / vegan / have a special diet. We are very happy to accommodate dietary preferences with advance notice.
Are there refrigerators in the rooms? All eight cabins have a small refrigerator for your convenience.
Do you serve meat? Yes, we do serve meat, primarily fish and chicken. If you are interested in a private party or gathering, please contact us so we may make special arrangements for you.
Is there hiking nearby? Yes! There are boundless opportunities for hiking in our area! We have lovely hiking trails on our 72 acre property. We are very close to the Chattahoochee National Forest, totally 749,689 acres in north Georgia. The Appalachian Trail (“AT”), perhaps the most famous hiking trail in the US, traversing 2,178 miles from Georgia to Maine, begins in our area! And there are several access points to the AT relatively nearby. Hiking supplies and maps are readily available in town.
What kind of activities are available in the area? Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, there is an abundance of things to do in the area! Hiking, swimming in magical waterfalls, panning for gold, trout fishing, cycling, rafting, canoing, kayaking, tubing, eating out, listening to music at a nearby venue, star gazing, soaking in our lovely outdoor hot tub, visiting local wineries, sampling their wines, horseback riding, and playing tennis and golf. Downtown Dahlonega is a charming historic area, home of the first US gold rush. There is a gold museum, plenty of fine artisans showing their wares, many cute gift shops, fine coffee and teas, an excellent music venue and a community theater. Dahlonega even has world-class chocolatiers as well!!!
What types of yoga do you offer? Each teacher offers their own unique style of yoga. Currently, we have both hatha yoga and a blend of vinyasa and viniyoga.
What types of massages do you offer? We have a wide variety of massage and spa treatments available. Please refer to our Spa section on this site for more details.
Can I register for spa and trips before I go? Yes, we recommend you make your spa appointments in advance.
Main House, West Wing and Cottage compare to the Cabins? The cabins are their own individual units, they are slightly larger and offer more privacy. Most of the cabins have two queen beds making it perfect for a family of two adults and two children. The floors are wooded and these are the rooms that allow pets. The Farm House, West Wing and Cottage rooms are in our main buildings. There are carpeted. All have other guest rooms next door and either above or below. They are closer to the restaurant / front desk services, sitting den, front porch and outdoors jacuzzi. The Main House, West Wing and Cottage rooms all have wifi. No pets are allowed in these rooms.
What types of excursions are available? Trips vary with the season. We have many tour options. Both half day and full-day trips are available. Please see the info on our Tours for more details. Or call to see what options are in season and available.
Do cell phones work there? Yes. Most cell phones work on most areas of our property. There are only a few areas where reception is spotty or nonexistent.
Do you have Wi-Fi? Yes. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in the Main House, West Wing, Cottage and the Yoga Hall. Cabins do not get a strong signal. Those staying in the cabins are welcome to bring their laptops up to the Main House and work in the lounge.
Are there a lot of bugs? No, we don’t have a lot of bugs. Our elevation and relative gentle breeze keeps bugs at a minimum. Our guests find it remarkably bug-free here.
Do you have television? No, we don’t. We provide peace and quiet, star gazing, evening hot tubbing and time of deep ease and relaxation.
Do you offer a laundry service? Laundry service is available nearby in town at a rate of approximately $12 a load. For our group programs we can assist you in this service.
How far is the town of Dahlonega from the resort? Dahlonega is 15-20 minutes from the resort. We can provide you with a simple driving map to help you find your way around the area.
Is there an ATM nearby? There are ATM machines in the nearby town of Dahlonega, approximately 15-20 minutes from the resort. There is also an ATM machine in the local Wal-Mart.
Do I need a car while there? It depends what you want to do. If you would like to explore the area, most definitely you will need a car. If you wish to hunker in and do a deep inner retreat, and wish to arrange transportation to and from your retreat, you would be fine without one.
Do you offer airport transportation? We can make arrangements for you. Crown Mountain Limo can assist you with your transportation needs.
How much is transportation from the airport? Check with either Crown Mountain Limo or Paddy’s Taxi. Pricing depends on whether it is a one-way or round-trip, the number of people in your party, etc.
What is your elevation? Dahlonega Spa Resort is located just above the town of Dahlonega whose elevation is reported to be 1,450 feet. We are located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains that rise above us.
Are there mountain views? Yes! From the front veranda of the Main House, you can have a magnificent long-range view of the mountains to the west. Sunsets are sublime!
How long has the resort been around? The resort has been open since 2002.
What is the history of this place? The property was originally built as a B & B, around 1997. It was named “Blueberry Inn Bed and Breakfast”. It was purchased in 2002 and the resort has been in operations since. The property was chosen as the perfect site for a healing retreat. R & R Resorts already had two successful retreat centers in Mexico, Maya Tulum and Costa Rica, Pura Vida Spa. In 2003, the resort came to be known as Pura Vida USA. The resort’s name was officially changed to Dahlonega Spa Resort in late 2009, to distinguish it from its Costa Rican counterpart and to fit into and to honor the local culture and natural environment.
Is it still operated by the folks who own Pura Vida Spa in Costa Rica? Yes! We are continuing the fine tradition of spa resorts focused upon transformation and wellness!
What is the resort's policy on children? What can they do while they're there? Children are welcome at Dahlonega Spa Resort. While here, they can use our hot tub. Children really enjoy our eco-excursions, too. (Please note that some tours may have an age minimum.) Since there are no televisions in our rooms, it is a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time together as a family, reading, exploring the property and having outdoors adventures.
Can I bring my pet? Yes, we can accommodate well-behaved pets in our cabins. There is a pet fee of $25. A deposit of $200 will be held until the day after checkout. Your deposit will be returned to you in full if the room is returned with in good condition.
Do you have heat and air conditioning? We have heat and AC throughout the property. We have ceiling fans in many of the rooms and on the lovely large veranda of the main house.
Is Dahlonega Spa Resort a safe place for single women to visit? Yes, our property is quite secluded. Most feel a deep sense of peace and ease on our property.
Who comes to DSR? Everyone is welcome. We have yoga enthusiasts, people interested in health and well-being, many who want a getaway from the fast pace of the city to relax, and guests who want deep rejuvenating care via spa treatments. Friends come for rich time together, Couples come to have a sweet, intimate and romantic time together. Artists and writers find this area inspiring. We have a lot of repeat guests. They come and want to come back as soon as possible! Fans of our other popular resorts come to this resort curious and wanting yet another wonderful r & r resorts experience!
Do mostly singles or couples come to DSR? The proportion of singles to couples is about 50/50. Many come to be alone and find rejuvenation and renewal. Couples enjoy DSR for romantic getaways. Many guests come with friends as travel companions. Those who wish for interaction with other guests find people quite friendly and respectful. Those who wish to keep to themselves find that quite easy and graceful as well. All are welcome!
